Scott Healy with the Eastman Chamber Jazz Orchestra

Live at Kilbourn Hall

Live at Kilbourn Hall CD Cover

…terrific large ensemble work led by composer and pianist Scott Healy. A mix of originals and covers (“Anthropology,” “Solitude,” “In Your Own Sweet Way”), with the transitions between the two groups sounding fluid and cohesive. Some nice soloing by members of the Eastman Chamber Jazz Orchestra, but it’s the best moments are those of group interplay when the energy of a song seems close to ripping its form apart just to have it all coalesce back into its original shape. -Dave Sumner, WonderingSound.com

When I heard the rough mixes of the concert I was really excited – but, we had no intention of making a record! I had wanted to merely get through the concert unscathed. Yet there was so much music packed into this evening, and the ensemble played everything so well. I could hear and feel all their attention to the detail and shape of my music. Add in flawless performances, burning solos, and an unmistakable exuberance and creative vibe…I could hear the richness of the hall and feel the energy of the audience. I knew I had a record’s worth of great material on my hands, one in which both my brand new music and un-recorded older pieces are fully realized and complete. Plus the recording quality is stellar. Fire up the CD presses!- Scott Healy

Performed live in concert on March 20th, 2014 at Kilbourn Recital Hall at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, Live at Kilbourn Hall comprises some new music, some previously unrecorded works, and two numbers from Scott’s Grammy®-nominated 2012 release Hudson City Suite. All elements came together: impeccable performance, pristine recording, burning solos, and an overall casual, youthful intensity – it’s an “instant” record – one take, no fixes – just mix, master,  release..maybe repeat…
